From a Small Alpine Hut to the Hotel Breitlehenalm
With passion and dedication, we, the Lürzer family, have been running our Breitlehenalm for decades. Generation after generation, we’ve turned this alpine pasture into something special. With heart and soul, hard work, and a deep connection to our homeland, the Breitlehenalm has evolved from a simple alpine hut into a 4-star hotel in Obertauern. Even though today our guests are delighted by the comfort, stylish rooms, and modern apartments, our roots remain—the small roof with the fireplace reminds us every day of where we come from—and what we stand for: a love for animals, a connection to nature, and warmth toward people. That is exactly what has made the Breitlehenalm a special place for generations.
1958
The history of the Breitlehenalm began when our ancestors purchased the alp at 1,640 meters above sea level. At that time, it was a small alpine hut with a dairymaid who lived there during the summer, milked the cows daily, and slept in her summer quarters on the alp. The alpine meadows surrounding the hut were cultivated, and the hay was laboriously transported down to Untertauern in the valley.
1983
Construction of a new alpine barn for 22 cows—an important milestone for alpine farming at the Breitlehenalm.
1985
Expansion of the alpine pasture to include 3 vacation apartments. The Breitlehenalm’s success story as a vacation destination in Obertauern begins.
1992
The alpine pasture became an apartment hotel with 65 guest beds.
1997
Construction of the Heustadl—a gathering place where, then as now, people celebrate, dine, and spend pleasant hours together.
2000
Expansion of the Heustadl and construction of the underground parking garage.
2002
Construction of the staff house.
2008
Expansion and modernization of the Hotel Breitlehenalm to 110 guest beds.
2026
A new chapter begins: With great attention to detail, the Breitlehenalm is extensively renovated and modernized to combine tradition with modern comfort for future generations.
