From a small alpine hut to the Hotel Breitlehenalm

With great passion and heart, we, the Lürzer family, have been running our Breitlehenalm for decades. Generation after generation, something special was created out of this alpine pasture. With plenty of dedication, hard work and a deep bond with our homeland, the Breitlehenalm grew from a simple alpine hut into a 4-star hotel in Obertauern. Even though comfort, stylish rooms and modern apartments delight our guests today, our roots have remained – the little roof with the chimney reminds us every day of where we come from and what we stand for: our love of animals, our bond with nature and our warmth towards people. That is exactly what has made the Breitlehenalm a special place for generations.
A history since 1958
1958
The story of the Breitlehenalm begins when our ancestors bought the alpine pasture at 1,640 metres above sea level. Back then it was a small alpine hut with a dairymaid who lived here over the summer, milked the cows every day and slept in her summer quarters up on the alm. The alpine meadows around the hut were farmed and the hay laboriously carried down into the valley to Untertauern.
1983
With the construction of a new alpine barn, 22 cows found a home on the Breitlehenalm – an important step for our alpine farming and for the further development of our house.
1985
The success story of the Breitlehenalm as a holiday destination in Obertauern begins. The little roof with the chimney reminds us every day of the place where it all started.
1992
The first holiday flats became an apartment hotel with 65 guest beds. The Breitlehenalm kept growing and was able to be a home away from home for more and more guests.
1997
With the construction of the Heustadl, a meeting place was created that stands for convivial hours to this day. Here people eat together, raise a glass, laugh and, of course, dance the night away.
2000
The Heustadl was extended and from then on offered even more space for enjoying and celebrating. At the same time, the construction of the underground car park brought more comfort for our guests.
2002
With the construction of our staff house, a home of their own was created for the people who look after the well-being of our guests with us every day.
2008
The Breitlehenalm kept growing: the extension and modernisation created space for a total of 110 guests. Step by step, the apartment hotel became the house that many know today.
2026
2026 marks the start of a new chapter: with great attention to detail, the Breitlehenalm is being extensively rebuilt and modernised to combine tradition and modern comfort for generations to come.
Obertauern with children
For little slope fans there is plenty to discover around the Breitlehenalm. In the kids’ land, the first turns are practised playfully, the neighbouring Krallinger ski school accompanies the next steps in the snow, and even more winter fun awaits in Bobbyland. Best of all: everything is close by – so the family ski day begins without long walks and with all the more time for snow adventures big and small.
